(3 min read) Just a short note about some of my outside work that may be of interest to Both/And subscribers, including three kindle books — two of which are free for 48 hours.
The Art of Medieval Tapestry
On Tuesday, over at The Gothic World, I published an essay on “The Art of Medieval Tapestry,” which provides a good overview of the art form and includes almost one hundred photos of over thirty tapestries illustrating regional differences, typical styles and motifs, thematic categories, etc.
This is the first of a cycle of three related essays I will be posting bi-weekly there. The next post is about the unicorn in medieval thought, and the final post brings things together to look in detail at two of the most famous cycles of art in the medieval world: “The Hunt for the Unicorn” and “The Lady & the Unicorn.”
If this is up your alley, consider subscribing to The Gothic World.

Implicate Orders: Nexus Complete
My serialized “future history,” which I announced here two months ago, has just completed its first story arc. Part I: Nexus stands alone as both origin and omen. It’s about 100 pages long, making it the equivalent of a novelette, easily binged in an evening or over a weekend.
So if you’ve been holding off on beginning until there was a complete entry point, this is it.
Each Part of Implicate Orders tells a complete story with a largely unique set of characters — almost like a season of an anthology series. Some threads will connect across the arcs, and weave a larger arc across all five Parts in doing so, but each Part stands alone as well.
If you’d like to read it, you can do so:
On Substack, where you can read all eight chapters for free:
On Kindle, where it’s just $0.99 (the lowest Amazon will allow):
Or as an EPUB, downloadable here for free:
(By the way: the epub file can be sent to your kindle account (use this page).)

Bonus Books!
I also have two other books available at Amazon, and have made them both free for 48 hours: from midnight Pacific time today — Friday, June 6th — til midnight tomorrow, Saturday, June 7th.
The Medium Makes the Society
Back in January and February, I wrote a five-part essay on “The Creation & Destruction of Social Orders.” Earlier this week I turned that series into an extended essay/short book (90 pages total) and released it as a kindle ebook. Since I decided to include it in the kindle unlimited plan, it is not allowed to be published elsewhere — only the introduction still exists on Both/And.

The Thinking Person’s Guide to Fitness
Way back in 2020 I published a full-sized book (300 pages) on physical fitness. While it doesn’t relate in any way to Implicate Orders or my current history writing, it’s a fine book intended to help anyone improve their fitness, regardless of their current fitness level. And why not offer it for free for a couple days? After all, I’m not doing any of this writing to make money.

By the way, if you read any of these books and enjoy them, I’d be very grateful if you’d take a moment to leave a review on Amazon.
Reviews are of massive importance in Amazon’s ecosystem, and even just a few words with a five-star rating make a big difference in helping new readers discover a book.
